Roger Clemens

BAS monthly meeting: Thursday 27 September 2018 - 7.30pm.  Bridport Town hall

Demonstration by Roger Clemens: Watercolour, pen and wash - Figures

"After a childhood spent in a Cornish fishing village sometimes watching local artists and sometimes even helping them with their work I briefly studied engineering type subjects and technical illustration, before the advent of CAD      (computer aided design)

Then I studied a B A Hons course in sculpture.       After a spell of building work and ceramic figure making I took up an art teaching post in Bristol, culminating in Head of an Art and Design Faculty. During this time I devised and ran many residential art courses in watercolour and figure painting and drawing.
Since retiring I now tutor a range of courses for Art Societies in Dorset, Devon, Somerset and Cornwall.
I am still very enthusiastic about Pen and Ink and watercolour techniques, loving the sense of drama and atmosphere that this media provides, and have developed some interesting techniques that I am keen to share."

Sue Fawthrop

BAS workshop.  Friday 12 October 2018 - Salwayash Village Hall.

Landscape - mixed media

Richard Turner

BAS monthly meeting: Thursday 25 October 2018 - 7.30pm.  Bridport Town Hall

Watercolour/pastel - Landscape

"I work in pastel as I prefer this medium for its immediacy, versatility and expressive qualities.

Whether painting plein air or in the studio my aim is to convey why I chose the subject and how I feel about it. My attempt is to build each image on the abstract qualities of shape and tone giving more emphasis to my idea rather than content

I have been tutoring and demonstrating since 2004. It’s a joy to share experiences and attempt to enthuse others but it has offered the added an unexpected benefit, a need to examine and understand my own working processes.

An explanation of these processes are now the basis of my demonstrations.

This examination continues and I consider myself a permanent student of this medium as every painting is a new and challenging experience.

Current emphases is on developing the use of water colour prior to pastel in order to exploit the less predictable liquid medium "
