Exhibitions

The Society has two established exhibitions each year, one in West Bay at Easter and the main annual exhibition at Bridport Arts Centre.  All members can submit work.

Artwork for sale

The great majority of the members'  work is for sale.  Alongside the displayed artwork there is the opportunity to purchase both folios (original artworks) and prints (copies of original artworks).  Many entrants offer greeting cards featuring their work.

West Bay Exhibition

The Salt House

Friday 19 April - Tuesday 23 April 2019

The exhibition will be open from 10 am to 5 pm, Friday to Monday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday 23rd.

We are introducing a ‘most popular painting’ prize this Easter, similar to the Batten Cup at the annual exhibition. Apart from rewarding the winner with a £25 art voucher, it is a proven way of engaging visitors, not least the children, and encouraging them to look at and consider all the art on show. As with the Batten Cup only non-professional members will be eligible.

The West Bay exhibition was held for the first time over Easter 2008 and has proved extremely popular with tourists as well as locals every year since. All members are invited to enter works for the exhibition and all works submitted are exhibited, assuming they meet the exhibition rules. The exhibition is open to the public and admission is free.

The Annual Exhibition of members' work is held each year in the Allsop Gallery in the Bridport Arts Centre during July/August.  From small beginnings in 1957 the exhibition has grown substantially and nowadays features well over 250 artworks.  A wide variety of media and techniques are on show.

The Allsop Gallery is a spacious and airy room with wonderful natural light and is one of the best exhibiting spaces in this part of the country. All members are invited to enter works for the exhibition. All works submitted are exhibited, provided they meet the exhibition rules. The exhibition is open to the public from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. daily.  Admission is free.

Instructions for hung works

These must be safe, secure and taut.  Pictures must have D-rings and proper hanging cord (not wire), the backs should be properly taped and fittings on photo frames removed.  The D-rings should be about a third of the way down the frame so that the picture hooks we use on the exhibition screens don't show in hanging. See below  :
